Resident doctors at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have commenced an indefinite strike to press for the fulfilment of long-standing demands.
In a memo titled “Notice of Industrial Action”, addressed to the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Olawale Olakulehin, and dated March 6, 2025, the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) stated that its members would embark on a total strike from midnight on March 7 until their grievances are addressed.
Signed by ARD President, Dr. Stephen Adedokun, and General Secretary, Dr. Adedapo Mustapha, the memo expressed frustration over the Oyo State Government’s failure to meet their demands despite repeated appeals.
Key Demands
The doctors highlighted several pressing issues, including:
Non-payment of minimum wage despite its implementation for other health workers in the state.
Shortfall in February salaries, violating agreements reached during previous management meetings.
Unauthorized deductions for insurance indemnity.
Neglect of call room repairs despite their deteriorating state.
Severe manpower shortages across various departments.
Non-payment of accoutrement allowance.
Delayed payments of upgrade arrears, examination refunds, and the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF).
Demands for Immediate Action
The doctors are insisting on:
Immediate refund of the February salary shortfall.
Payment of the new minimum wage, including arrears.
Urgent repairs of call rooms.
Recruitment of resident doctors across all departments.
Payment of all outstanding allowances, including MRTF and upgrade arrears.
The memo emphasized that the decision to embark on the strike was reached unanimously by the ARD congress.
Despite previous appeals to Governor Seyi Makinde and the State Commissioner for Health, the doctors lamented that no concrete steps had been taken to address their concerns.
