The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the commencement of the 2025 nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the Commission revealed that online pre-registration will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025, through its designated portal: cvr.inecnigeria.org.

Furthermore, in-person registration is scheduled to commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, at all INEC Local Government Area offices and approved registration centres across the country. The physical registration will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.
INEC urged all eligible Nigerians—particularly those who have just attained voting age or were unable to register in previous exercises—to take advantage of the opportunity.
“This exercise is for Nigerians who have attained voting age or those who were unable to register in previous exercises. We encourage all eligible citizens to either begin the process online or visit our offices and designated centres once the physical registration begins,” the Commission stated.
INEC further clarified that the Continuous Voter Registration is not limited to new registrants. It also accommodates:
Requests for transfer of registration location
Replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs)
Correction of personal information, including names and dates of birth
Reaffirming its commitment to electoral integrity, the Commission emphasized: “Our goal is to ensure every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to exercise their civic right. We are working to make the voter registration process accessible, transparent, and inclusive.”
The announcement signals the beginning of preparations toward what is expected to be a significant electoral exercise in 2025.
