The immediate past President of Ogbomoso First Group, Sir Olusegun Adéyemí Adékúnlé, has pledged his full support for the new President, Architect Suara Akínola. He emphasized the importance of former leaders of reputable organizations leveraging their experience to assist their successors in achieving remarkable progress and effective administration.
Sir Adékúnlé made this commitment during a telephone interview with the Group’s Consultant and Presenter, Sayo Àlàgbé, on Tiwantiwa, a programme aired live yesterday evening on Ajilete FM 91.2, Gambari, near Ogbomoso.
Reflecting on his tenure, he highlighted key achievements, including fostering unity among members and expanding the Group’s multidimensional programmes. He noted that his administration initiated mentorship programmes for young talents and strengthened partnerships with organizations that shared their values.
“Under my leadership, we provided numerous empowerment opportunities for Ogbomoso indigenes, training them in various vocational skills to help them sustain their families,” he stated. He further mentioned initiatives such as the provision of motorcycles, hairdressing equipment, deep freezers, barbing salon tools, and a free medical outreach conducted in collaboration with the Idowu-Ajagbe Medical Foundation. The outreach included free eye tests, treatments, and medicated glasses for individuals with vision impairments. Additionally, the Group partnered with NACA to conduct HIV/AIDS screenings and awareness programmes including working closely with the NDLEA by organizing impactful campaigs and public awareness programmes to sentizise, educate, and warn the youths in Ogbomoso and its environs about dangers of engaging in hard drugs use and other related substances.
Discussing the challenges faced during his tenure, the retired federal government permanent secretary identified inadequate funding as a major obstacle to implementing his developmental goals. However, he commended the unwavering commitment of Group members, who, despite financial constraints, contributed individually and sought government support to sustain the organization’s activities.
Sir Adékúnlé expressed satisfaction with the significant growth of the Group in terms of membership, influence, and impact. He noted that innovative programmes were introduced, utilizing radio and social media for broader engagement while enhancing the organization’s structural sustainability beyond his tenure.
Offering advice to his successor, he urged Architect Suara Sakiru Akínola to remain dedicated, inclusive, and open to new ideas, emphasizing that effective leadership requires patience and teamwork. He encouraged the new president to collaborate closely with the executive team and members to build upon past successes.
Addressing unfinished projects, Sir Adékúnlé acknowledged that no single administration could complete all tasks in an organization as vast and demanding as the Ogbomoso First Group. However, he expressed confidence in Architect Morafa’s ability, intelligence, and capacity to elevate the Group to greater heights. He assured the people of Ogbomoso that the new leadership would steer the organization towards even greater achievements.
