The Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso, has been officially accredited as a Cisco Networking Academy Learning Centre, a milestone the institution’s leadership describes as a major stride toward global relevance in digital education and innovation.
The Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, announced the development on Wednesday through a statement issued by the institution’s Protocols and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Adepoju.
According to the Rector, the newly acquired status as a Cisco-accredited centre will bring immense benefits to students, staff, and host communities by providing access to industry-standard IT and networking education. Cisco Systems Inc., headquartered in San Jose, California, is a global leader in digital communications and IT infrastructure.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed emphasized the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic and technological excellence, stating that the accreditation will enable the polytechnic to offer specialized training in high-demand areas such as networking, cybersecurity, data science, programming, digital literacy, operating systems, and professional development.
“These programmes are aligned with globally recognized certifications and are designed to equip students with job-ready skills needed in today’s fast-paced digital economy,” he said.
He described the feat as a “major leap” for the institution, reinforcing its strategic goal of producing graduates with industry-relevant, practical skills.
Highlighting the wide-ranging impact of the Cisco accreditation, Dr. Abdul-Hameed noted that the institution stands to gain increased credibility and visibility through its association with a global brand. This, he said, could translate into increased student enrollment and an enhanced curriculum enriched by Cisco’s up-to-date learning resources and materials.
Beyond institutional benefits, the Rector pointed out that staff would also be able to upgrade their expertise through Cisco’s instructor training programmes, keeping them abreast of emerging industry trends and technologies. This professional development, he noted, could improve the career prospects of staff and foster meaningful connections within global industry networks.
“Our instructors will gain access to continuous professional training, which not only improves the quality of education delivered but also provides them with industry recognition and new collaborative opportunities,” he added.
Speaking further, Dr. Abdul-Hameed identified students as the principal beneficiaries of the initiative. With access to world-class training and certification, students will gain a competitive edge in the job market.
“By acquiring in-demand skills and globally recognized certifications, our students will enhance their employability and career advancement opportunities,” he said. “They will also be able to tap into Cisco’s professional network for career events, mentorship, and industry exposure.”
He also noted that the host communities stand to benefit significantly from the presence of a Cisco Networking Academy. According to him, the availability of a digitally skilled workforce could attract businesses and stimulate economic growth in the region.
“Increased collaborations between the Polytechnic and local organizations can spur development initiatives, create jobs, and boost the local economy,” the Rector concluded.
The establishment of the Cisco Networking Academy Learning Centre marks a new chapter in Federal Polytechnic Ayede’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community impact.
