The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has disclosed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered a total of ₦566.3 billion, $411.6 million, and 1,502 properties between 2023 and 2025 under the leadership of its Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.

Issa-Onilu made the revelation during the October edition of the Joint Security Press Briefing in Abuja, which provided updates on inter-agency collaboration in security, anti-corruption, and public communication.

According to him, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) also recovered ₦840 million and $919,000 in October 2025, after concluding 15 investigations and securing two convictions from 44 petitions received within the period.

The NOA DG further announced that the Federal Government has reinvested about ₦100 billion recovered from corruption cases into vital public sectors, particularly education, students’ loan initiatives, and consumer credit schemes, as part of efforts to ensure recovered assets directly benefit Nigerians.

“Every kobo recovered from corruption must work for the people — funding education, credit, and health reforms, rather than lying idle,” Issa-Onilu stated.

He emphasized that the reinvestment of recovered funds demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that anti-corruption efforts translate into tangible improvements in citizens’ welfare.

On national security, Issa-Onilu reported significant progress in data-driven intelligence, inter-agency cooperation, and citizen participation, which he said have strengthened national safety and reduced violent crime rates.

He revealed that fatalities from violent crimes dropped by 12 per cent, from 210 in September to 185 in October, while arrests of major suspects rose by 33 per cent and rescues of abducted victims increased by 40 per cent.

Highlighting the achievements of other agencies, the NOA boss said:

NAFDAC seized over 70 containers of counterfeit goods, NDLEA dismantled 14 drug syndicates, arrested 1,378 suspects, and secured 251 convictions,

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) rescued 76 victims of human trafficking and processed 15,000 visa applications under its new digital system, and

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) recorded notable progress in road safety enforcement and accident reduction.

Issa-Onilu added that the NOA reached over 32 million citizens between August and October through television, radio, and digital platforms, promoting civic awareness, public accountability, and national unity.

“Accurate information saves lives; misinformation costs them,” he cautioned, urging Nigerians to verify information before sharing and to report suspicious activities to appropriate authorities.

He reaffirmed that the government’s “whole-of-government” approach—integrating intelligence, enforcement, and civic engagement—continues to enhance transparency, build public trust, and strengthen national security.
