Today, Sunday, October 26, 2025, marks a milestone in the life of one of Ogbomoso’s most illustrious sons — Distinguished Senator Brimmo Yemi Yusuf, a retired Army General, elder statesman, political icon, and revered community leader — as he turns 80 years old.

A man of distinction and humility, Senator Yusuf embodies the ideals of patriotism, leadership, and selfless service. His journey from the military to the political arena and then into statesmanship reflects an unwavering commitment to the development of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and Nigeria at large.
Born in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, eight decades ago, Brimmo Yemi Yusuf grew up with a deep sense of discipline, duty, and service — virtues that later defined his career in the Nigerian Army. Rising through the ranks to become a Brigadier General, he served the nation meritoriously in various capacities, leaving behind records of excellence and honor.
An alumnus of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Senator Yusuf held several strategic positions within the military, including serving as the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army. His years in service were marked by professionalism, commitment, and an unblemished record of integrity.
After retiring from the military, in 1999, at the dawn of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, he was elected Senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District under the Alliance for Democracy (AD) platform. His tenure, from May 29, 1999, to May 2003, was marked by active participation in key Senate Committees, including Internal Affairs, Security and Intelligence, Defence, and Drugs and Narcotics.
Senator Yusuf’s dedication to legislative duties and his passion for good governance earned him respect across party lines. When political realignments swept through the Senate, he joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2001, where he continued to champion the cause of his people. In 2002, he was among the prominent aspirants seeking to govern Oyo State under the PDP platform.
In November 2009, Senator Yusuf was appointed Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company, a position through which he again demonstrated visionary leadership and strategic acumen.
He is widely regarded as one of the key political figures who have helped shape the political direction of Ogbomoso and Oyo State. A close associate and elder brother to the late former Governor Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, Senator Yusuf remains a pillar of the Alao-Akala political family — upholding and nurturing its enduring philosophy of humanism, empowerment, and grassroots development. Brimmo Yusuf remains a strong pillar of APC, a ruling political party in Nigeria.
Even in retirement, his wisdom, guidance, and fatherly counsel continue to influence political discourse and inspire younger generations.
Those who know Senator Brimmo Yemi Yusuf describe him as a man of impeccable character — sociable, approachable, accommodating, and deeply principled. His quiet strength and disciplined demeanor reflect the essence of a true soldier and statesman who has served his nation with pride and dignity.
His impact transcends politics and public service; he remains a mentor, community builder, and advocate for peace and progress.
As the distinguished Senator marks his 80th birthday, the people of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and Nigeria at large join in celebrating an icon whose life exemplifies loyalty, patriotism, and excellence.
The management and staff of ScoopChase join family, friends, and associates in wishing Distinguished Senator Brimmo Yemi Yusuf a glorious birthday filled with sound health, divine grace, and continued prosperity.
