Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has announced plans to establish a Centre for Police Studies in honor of the late Inspector General of Police (1981–1983), Chief Sunday Adewusi, GCON.

The Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof. R.O.M. Kalilu, disclosed this on Saturday during the fourth biennial memorial lecture for Chief Adewusi, organized by the Ogbomoso Community Foundation (OCF) at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club.

Following a lecture by Prof. Oyesoji Aremu titled “Failure of Internal Security: Dissecting the Historical and Systemic Dysfunctionality of the Nigeria Police Force,” many attendees called for Chief Adewusi to be immortalized for his contributions to policing in Nigeria.

In response, Prof. Kalilu confirmed that a proposal for the center was already under consideration.

“Regarding the immortalization of Chief Sunday Adewusi, we are exploring the establishment of a Centre for Police Studies. We will assess the feasibility and take necessary steps to make it a reality,” he stated.

The guest lecturer, Prof. Aremu, welcomed the proposal, pledging his support.

“I fully support the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative to establish the Sunday Adewusi Centre for Police Studies at LAUTECH. You can count on me—I will be available to contribute,” he affirmed.

Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Jacob Ajani (rtd.), the special guest of honor, suggested broadening the scope of the center to a Centre for Security Studies to accommodate other security agencies.
