The Court of Appeal in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has affirmed Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, as the rightful Soun of Ogbomosoland.
In a judgment delivered moments ago, the appellate court overturned the earlier ruling of the High Court, which had favored Prince Muhammed Kabiru Olaoye in his case against the Soun. The Appeal Court dismissed the claims challenging Oba Ghandi’s eligibility, including allegations that he was not a direct descendant of a past Soun and that his father was not buried at the Abata burial site of previous Obas.
Furthermore, the court upheld that Oba Ghandi was validly selected by the kingmakers. Consequently, the respondent, Prince Muhammed Kabiru Olaoye, was fined N500,000 for each of the charges.
