In a renewed effort to foster sustainable development in Oyo Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo, has unveiled a comprehensive developmental agenda aimed at enhancing community growth and prosperity.
The monarch, during a closed-door meeting with selected patriotic sons and daughters of the kingdom announced during week the formation of strategic committees to implement various developmental plans. He also appealed to the people to resolve land disputes amicably, stressing that his interest lies not in acquiring anyone’s land but in promoting unity and progress.

Kabiyesi reiterated his long-standing commitment to grassroots inclusion, a stance that has earned him widespread love and respect across communities in the kingdom.
Significantly, Oba Owoade stated that chieftaincy titles would no longer be awarded based on wealth or political influence, but rather on tangible contributions to community development. “If you seek a title in Oyo, you must first invest in meaningful projects,” he said firmly.
An example of this new standard is Chief (Mrs.) Amudalat, the newly appointed Iya Gbogbo (Iyalaje), who was mandated to build a hospital for the community. To support this noble task, Kabiyesi allocated land for the project, which has since commenced.
The Alaafin also praised the founder of Atiba University, Prof. James Ojebode, for his unwavering support for Oyo’s development. Prof. Ojebode not only released the land used for skill acquisition programs but also provided facilities for over 2,000 trainees sponsored by the Alaafin himself. The training program is now nearing completion, with beneficiaries set to be empowered across various vocational disciplines.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Ojebode affirmed his continuous commitment to the advancement of Oyo town, declaring his readiness to support developmental initiatives at any time.
Kabiyesi concluded by inviting development-minded individuals to invest in the kingdom. “If you are reading this and desire a chieftaincy title in Alaafin’s Yoruba land, come forward—not with money, but with a willingness to develop. We will provide land for your project, and only then will installation follow. This is about legacy, not wealth,” he stated.
The Alaafin’s position signals a transformative era where titles are earned through service and tangible impact, ushering in a new culture of responsibility and progress in the Oyo Kingdom.
