The ancient city of Ogbomoso was aglow with excitement on Saturday as prominent figures across political, social and community divides converged on the Tombola Hall of the Ogbomoso Recreation Club to celebrate the birthday anniversary of philanthropist and grassroots politician, Hon. Tosin Olanrewaju Adegun
The event, which attracted a large turnout of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, party faithful and admirers, was widely described as a reflection of Adegun’s rising profile within Ogbomoso politics and his deep-rooted connection with the people. From the early hours of the celebration, the venue buzzed with activity as guests from different walks of life arrived to honour the celebrant.Adding colour and elegance to the occasion was a carefully chosen dress code, as guests adorned themselves in white and colourful caps that complemented the celebrant’s outfit, giving the hall a festive and visually striking ambience. The celebratory mood was further heightened by lively and pulsating music supplied by popular band, D-Remight, which kept guests entertained throughout the event.
Among those present were notable APC leaders and influential personalities, including Hon. Wasiu Olukan, Deacon Aderinto, Alhaji Bukola Badmus, Prince Abass Bello Bayewuwon and Elder Samuel Atiba, among many others. Family members, close associates, friends and well-wishers were also in attendance, with the parents of the celebrant making a rare public appearance that drew warm applause from the gathering.
Beyond the glamour and pageantry, the event became a platform for heartfelt tributes and testimonies celebrating Adegun’s personal qualities and contributions to community development. Speakers from both political and non-political backgrounds took turns to recount how the celebrant has, over the years, touched lives through consistent acts of generosity and service.
Beneficiaries of his philanthropic gestures spoke emotionally about his support for the less privileged, describing him as an unsparing giver with a genuine passion for human welfare. In his address, an emotional but confident Adegun expressed profound gratitude to God and to all those who took time to celebrate with him. He thanked his parents, family members, friends and political associates for their unwavering support, describing the massive turnout as a source of encouragement and renewed responsibility.
The celebrant used the occasion to formally declare his intention to contest for a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Ogbomoso North Local Government, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. According to him, the decision to run was borne out of years of interaction with the people and a desire to contribute more meaningfully to governance and development.
Adegun pledged that, if given the mandate, he would offer purposeful, people-oriented and transparent representation, with a focus on education, youth empowerment, social welfare and grassroots development. He assured constituents of his readiness to be accessible, responsive and accountable, while working closely with stakeholders to advance the interests of Ogbomoso North at the state level.
“I am grateful to everyone who came to share this special moment with me. Your presence strengthens my resolve to serve. If you consider me worthy and give me your support, I promise to represent you diligently and wholeheartedly,” he said.
Many observers at the event described the celebration as more than a birthday party, noting that it doubled as a significant political gathering that signalled the beginning of intensified consultations ahead of the 2027 elections. With the show of unity and support witnessed at the ceremony, Hon. Tosin Olanrewaju Adegun’s political aspiration is already generating discussions within Ogbomoso’s political landscape.
As the celebration drew to a close, guests left with a sense that the day marked not only a personal milestone for the celebrant but also a defining moment in his journey toward higher political responsibility.
