The Oyo State Police Command has intensified security measures around schools across the state as the new academic session begins, in a renewed effort to protect pupils, students, teachers and school facilities.

The Command said the initiative, being implemented in partnership with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), is designed to strengthen security around educational institutions and prevent potential threats to members of the school community.
The Safe School Initiative was unveiled as part of activities marking the 42nd anniversary of the PCRC in Oyo State, further strengthening the longstanding partnership between the police and communities in addressing security challenges.
Under the initiative, the Command said there would be increased police visibility around schools, enhanced community-based intelligence gathering and a faster response to emerging security threats.
The police will also collaborate closely with the PCRC Safe School Club, school proprietors and administrators, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), teachers, parents and students to identify and address potential threats before they escalate.
According to the Command, personnel assigned to school protection have been directed to maintain regular contact with school communities and respond promptly to credible security intelligence.
The police urged members of the public, particularly residents living around schools, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities within and around school premises.
The Command stressed that timely information from members of the public could play a crucial role in preventing attacks and other security incidents.
It consequently encouraged residents to embrace the security message: “See Something, Say Something.”
The Command further assured residents that intelligence-led policing and sustained engagement with communities would remain central to its efforts to maintain a safe and secure learning environment throughout Oyo State.
Members of the public requiring emergency assistance can contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on 615, while the Police Command Control Room can be reached on 08081768614 or 07055495413.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on behalf of the Oyo State Police Command.
