The ancient city of Ogbomoso has once again been thrown into mourning following the death of renowned medical practitioner, Dr. Emmanuel Amao of Shalom Medical Centre.
Dr. Amao’s death comes barely fourteen weeks after the city mourned the passing of another prominent physician, Dr. Sunday Oladeji, founder and Chief Medical Director of Mainspring Hospital, Ogbomoso, who died after a brief illness.

The passing of Dr. Amao has further deepened concerns over the loss of experienced medical practitioners who have contributed immensely to the development of private healthcare delivery in Ogbomoso and its surrounding communities.
Shalom Medical Centre, under Dr. Amao’s leadership, was among the private medical facilities that helped transform healthcare practice in the ancient town. The hospital earned widespread recognition for its modern facilities, qualified personnel, prompt attention, compassionate care and relatively affordable medical services.
For many residents, Dr. Amao was not merely a physician but a dedicated professional whose commitment to saving lives and caring for patients left a lasting impression.
According to family sources, Dr. Amao died at the age of 71. Although he lived considerably longer than Dr. Oladeji, who died at 46, his passing has nonetheless been described by many as a painful and significant loss, particularly given his decades of service to humanity through the medical profession.
The contributions of Dr. Amao, Dr. Oladeji and other private medical practitioners in Ogbomoso extend far beyond hospital walls. Through their dedication, countless lives were saved, families were given hope and communities gained access to essential healthcare services.
Their legacies are therefore not measured solely by the number of patients they treated, but by the countless lives they touched, the families they supported and the confidence they inspired in the healthcare system.
As Ogbomoso mourns the departure of another respected medical practitioner, tributes are expected to continue pouring in from family members, colleagues, former patients and residents who encountered Dr. Amao during his years of service.
May God grant his family, friends, colleagues, patients and the entire Ogbomoso community the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
May the souls of Dr. Emmanuel Amao, Dr. Sunday Oladeji and all other departed medical practitioners who dedicated their lives to saving humanity rest in perfect peace.
