Federal Polytechnic Ayede, located in Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, held its Combined Maiden Convocation Lecture at the institution’s Permanent Site.

The lecture attracted traditional rulers, government officials, education stakeholders, staff and students of the institution, as well as other distinguished guests from across the country.
Welcoming guests at the event, the Coordinator of the Convocation Lecture and Public Relations Officer of the Polytechnic, Mr. Sunday Adepoju, formally introduced dignitaries in attendance. Among them were the Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, represented by High Chief S.S. Otolorin the Aare-Aareago of Ogbomosoland; the Olosupa of Osupa, Oba Rasaq Ademola; the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon; Oba Francis Olusola Alao, the Alajaawa of Ajaawa, Oba Moses Olayiwola JP III; the Aresa-Pupa of Iresa-Pupa, and several other traditional rulers.
Other notable attendees included Honourable Yakubu Dati (FNIPR), Chairman of the Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic Ayede; Honourable Segun Dokun Odebunmi; Senator Abdulfatai Buhari; Alhaji Lamidi Monsur Ejide; Dr. Samson Adewale Adegoke; the Pioneer Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed; the Deputy Registrar, Mr. Azeez Olasunkanmi; the Bursar, Alhaja Rashidat Titiola; members of the Governing Council; Academic Board members; Deans of Schools; Directors; Heads of Departments and Units; staff and students.
In his address, the Pioneer Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, described the maiden combined convocation lecture as a historic milestone in the life of the institution. He expressed gratitude to all invited guests for their support, noting that their presence was a clear indication that Federal Polytechnic Ayede was gaining recognition as a fast-growing institution.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Minister of Education, Mr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, members of the Governing Council, management, staff and students for their collective sacrifices and commitment to the growth of the Polytechnic. Special appreciation was extended to Senator Ayoade Adeseun and other prominent sons of Ogbomosoland for their contributions to the establishment and development of the institution.
Delivering the convocation lecture, the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, spoke on the theme: “The Role of Technology in Implementing Nigeria’s New Tax Law: Challenges, Prospects and Implications for National Development.”
Dr. Adedeji emphasized the critical role of technology in modern governance and economic development, noting that technological advancement remains a major driver of growth in developed economies. He stressed that the effective implementation of Nigeria’s new tax laws depends largely on the deployment of robust digital infrastructure.
According to him, technology serves as a catalyst for transparency, efficiency and accountability in tax administration, adding that appropriate legal frameworks must be put in place by lawmakers to support technology-driven tax systems capable of enhancing economic sustainability and national development.
He, however, identified challenges such as poor data systems and inadequate network infrastructure as major obstacles to the effective use of technology in Nigeria, calling for deliberate investment in digital capacity to address these gaps.
The highlight of the event was the conferment of an honorary award on Dr. Adedeji in recognition of his contribution to national development and public service. The vote of thanks was delivered by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Honourable Yakubu Dati.
