Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, has announced a six-day programme of activities for its maiden combined convocation ceremonies for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions, marking a historic milestone in the institution’s short but impactful existence.

Speaking at a pre-convocation press conference held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Administrative Building of the Polytechnic’s Permanent Site in Ayede, the Rector, Engr. Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, FNSE, described the event as the first convocation press briefing since the institution was established on January 19, 2021.

According to the Rector, the engagement with the media underscores the Polytechnic’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and partnership with the press, while also providing an opportunity to highlight the institution’s academic growth, infrastructural development, and strategic vision as a federal institution dedicated to technical, vocational, and entrepreneurial education.

He disclosed that the combined convocation ceremonies commenced on Sunday with a church service at the Temporary Site in Iresa-Pupa and will continue with a novelty football match between teaching and non-teaching staff on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The Polytechnic will host its maiden Convocation Lecture on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Permanent Site.

The lecture, themed “The Role of Technology in Implementing Nigeria’s New Tax Laws: Challenges, Prospects, and Implications for National Development,” will be delivered by Dr. Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, and chaired by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, GCON.

The main convocation ceremony will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, featuring the award of National Diploma certificates, presentation of prizes, and the conferment of Fellowships of the Polytechnic on Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Dr. Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, and Engr. Dr. Abubakar Isa. Activities will conclude on Friday with Jumat prayers at the Temporary Site.

Engr. Abdul-Hameed expressed appreciation to the Visitor to the Polytechnic, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for sustained support under the Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as the Federal Ministry of Education, NBTE, TETFund, and other regulatory bodies for accreditation, funding, and institutional guidance. He also commended the Governing Council, management, staff, and students for their dedication to the Polytechnic’s vision.

The Rector acknowledged the strong support of host communities and traditional institutions, particularly the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, and other traditional rulers in Ogbomoso and its environs, for their contributions to infrastructural development, peaceful coexistence, and community ownership of the institution.

He further appreciated the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde, the Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Council, and several public office holders and stakeholders for their facilitation roles and developmental support, including the ongoing construction of the access road from Idi-Araba to the Permanent Site.

On academic development, the Rector revealed that the Polytechnic currently runs 13 NBTE-approved National Diploma programmes across five Schools, having commenced academic activities in 2023. He noted that skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training are compulsory components of the institution’s programmes, ensuring that graduates are equipped as job creators and not merely job seekers.

Highlighting infrastructural achievements, Engr. Abdul-Hameed disclosed that the Polytechnic has executed 68 major projects across its Permanent and Temporary campuses, funded through TETFund interventions, federal capital allocations, institutional initiatives, and donations from individuals and organisations. He added that over 90 institution-based research projects and several TETFund-supported fabrication projects have also been completed.

Despite the recorded progress, the Rector identified critical needs, including improved access roads, staff and student accommodation, potable water, stable electricity, healthcare facilities, digital infrastructure, and recreational spaces. He called on government at all levels, development partners, the private sector, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the institution’s continued growth.

He concluded by thanking members of the press for their partnership and urged them to help project the historic convocation and development strides of Federal Polytechnic Ayede to the wider public.
