Muslim faithful across the globe gathered on Friday, June 6, 2025, to commemorate Eid-el-Kabir, one of the most significant festivals in Islam. The celebration, which marks the 1446 AH edition, honors the unwavering faith, obedience, and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, peace be upon him) to Almighty Allah.

Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” according to Alhaji Monsur Ayòadé Èjìdé – founder of ISBON, symbolizes Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail, in obedience to a divine command. Just as he prepared to fulfill this command, Allah, in His infinite mercy, provided a ram as a substitute—an act that remains a timeless lesson in faith and submission.

This profound event he said, is referenced in the Holy Qur’an (Surah As-Saffat, verses 100–109), where the story of Ibrahim’s test is vividly captured, reflecting his absolute trust in Allah’s provision and wisdom. His obedience, even in the face of despair, earned him a place as a paragon of faith and resilience for generations to come.

The spiritual essence of Eid-el-Kabir extends beyond the ritual slaughtering of animals. It is a moment of deep reflection, reminding the Muslim Ummah of the virtues of obedience, sacrifice, and charity. The festival emphasizes the importance of helping the less privileged, sharing with neighbors, and strengthening communal bonds.

Muslims are enjoined to emulate Prophet Ibrahim’s generosity and faithfulness by giving wholeheartedly to others, particularly the needy. This spirit of giving is not only a moral duty but a religious obligation that reflects one of the fundamental pillars of Islam.

“Eid-el-Kabir teaches us that no matter how dire our situations may seem, Almighty Allah is capable of providing for our needs in His own time,” said Alhaji Monsur Èjìdé during the Eid sermon at Èjìdé central mosque Ogbomoso. “It is a call to remain faithful, obedient, and patient, especially during trials.”

As Muslims around the world marked this sacred day with prayers, feasts, and acts of charity, the overarching message remains clear: trust in Allah, obey His commands, and serve humanity with kindness. In doing so, believers reaffirm their devotion and their place in the community of faith.

The Eid celebration, once again, serves as a powerful reminder of the spiritual legacy of Prophet Ibrahim, whose story continues to inspire devotion, courage, and selflessness among Muslim faithful worldwide.
