In a major stride toward advancing research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, the Federal Polytechnic Ayede has unveiled a cutting-edge Portable 3D Printing Machine. Designed and built by Engr. Tijani O.M., Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology, the machine was developed with funding support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) under its fabrication grant scheme.

This locally fabricated 3D printer marks a significant leap in the institution’s drive to commercialize research outputs and foster hands-on learning. With capabilities tailored for rapid prototyping and product development, the machine is expected to transform how students and researchers turn ideas into tangible innovations.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, praised the innovation as a key milestone in the institution’s mission to equip students with practical skills relevant to the modern economy. “This 3D printing machine is more than a tool — it’s a gateway to creativity, problem-solving, and future entrepreneurship. Our goal is to provide students with the resources to innovate and create jobs, not just seek them,” he said.

He also acknowledged the role of the federal government and TETFund in supporting research and technology-based learning: “We deeply appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and the foresight of TETFund for empowering institutions like ours. Their support makes it possible for us to bridge the gap between theory and practice.”

It opens the door to producing commercial products and nurturing job creators,” he affirmed.

The unveiling has generated widespread excitement among faculty and students, positioning Federal Polytechnic Ayede as a hub of innovation and applied research. Under the leadership of Engr. Dr. Abdul-Hameed, the institution remains committed to championing initiatives that integrate academic excellence with real-world application.

As the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology leads this new wave of innovation, the Polytechnic sets a strong example for other institutions across Nigeria. The introduction of the Portable 3D Printing Machine underscores Federal Polytechnic Ayede’s vision of fostering a practical, entrepreneurial learning environment in line with national goals for technological advancement and economic empowerment.
